The rough stretch continues for the Golden State Warriors on the road, absorbing a 127-119 loss against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Friday defeat extends the bleeding of the defending champs while they are away of their home turf, now moving on with a 10-game losing skid. Despite their horrendous display in the enemy territory, head coach Steve Kerr is keeping his faith and optimism alive that the Dubs will be able to handle their challenging situation.
“14-4 out of the gate, we looked great and then we started turning it over and their transition was hurting us, so that was the problem the last eight minutes of the first quarter or so,” Kerr said about the Warriors’ lapses against the Hawks, per NBC Sports’ Ali Thanawalla. “And then we settled down after that, did a better job of handling their transition, taking care of the ball. Proud of our guys’ effort. We had chances. We had several shots in the last couple minutes to take the lead and just couldn’t get anything to go.
“But love the effort, love the energy. These guys are fight. I believe in them. I believe something good is going to happen with this group. We’ve just got to keep fight and keep moving forward.”
The Warriors tallied 17 turnovers, which includes the late-game costly mistake of Stephen Curry that allowed Trae Young to ice the Hawks Friday victory.
Atlanta was also laser-focused in shooting from deep, draining 39 percent of their 41 attempts from the line that overwhelmed Golden State’s inefficient 27.5 percent mark (40 total shots).
The Dubs haven’t won a road game since Jan. 30 when they outlasted the Oklahoma City Thunder. So far, they are 7-28 throughout the season outside San Francisco.
11 games left to their season, wherein six more road trips coming up. Memphis, Dallas, Denver and Sacramento – four of these matches will truly be daunting tests as they hope to break the ice, take the dub in front of the hostile crowd and maintain their position on the tight seeding race of the Western Conference.
First one are the Grizzlies this Saturday, thirsty to outlast them and even up their season series even with Ja Morant still inactive.
